Filament tape VS Duct tape: components and applications
Filament tape is a hot melt adhesive tape used for medium and heavy-duty bundling, packaging and fastening operations and it’s usually made of 3 different components:
- A BOPP backing (biaxially oriented polypropylene)
- Fiberglass inserts, embedded into the backing
- Hot melt adhesive
The nature of its components makes filament tape extremely strong and resistant, with great holding power and tensile strength.
For this reason, filament tape is specifically used to wrap heavy cardboard boxes, bundle heavy items together, difficult pallet fastening and general reinforcement applications in both the industrial and consumer field.
Depending on the weight and size of the objects to bundle, a different filament tape is required. For particularly heavy applications, PPM has developed a special filament tape, with a cross weave filament structure that provides even stronger holding properties.
PPM’s filament tape
PPM Industries manufactures a complete range of filament tapes, for all applications:
Duct tape, on the other hand, is an extremely versatile, multi-purpose tool that provides simple, strong, reliable solutions for any job, both professional and DIY, where a waterproof, robust tape is required.
Duct tape is composed of:
- Backing in PE (polyethylene) laminated synthetic cloth
- Hot melt adhesive
Duct tape is designed to hold well at both low and high temperatures, which makes it extremely suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. Ultimately, duct tape is a multipurpose high-performance tape for daily repairs and activities with different materials and surfaces. You can use it for packaging, bundling, holding, splicing, tabbing and banding.
PPM’s duct tape
PPM Industries, as a globally known duct tape manufacturer, has a wide variety of duct tapes, for both professional and utility use. Depending on the kind of application and the holding power you need, you can choose among:
As you can see, PPM really has everything you need. Whether you have to seal really heavy boxes, repair pipes or fasten pallets, PPM can help you with the tape perfect for you. So, to answer the initial question: which one is the right one? Well, technically the answer would be: both, depending on the application.
